Regarding "Mainstream Media's Ignorance" I believe that televison programing being marketed as "News" is simply entertainment, and advertising drives it. The networks broadcast what people watch, and advertisers spend their money to advertise on the timeslots that have the most viewers. Think I'm off base? MacNeil/Lehrer on PBS has a significantly better evening news show, and while it's airing people are busy watching...Entertainment Tonight. Sorry, these references are American, but from what I've read, broadcasts in other parts of the world are similar, because it's advertising driven. The only thing I could see that would change it would be if a petition was organized to major advertising agencies and major advertisers. I'd skip the networks completley. I think if enough people wrote to companies like Ford and Coca Cola and said, I just wanted you to know I'm sending a contribution in to Public Television to support their news shows, because ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX and any others broadcast weak news programs and I don't watch them anymore, I think that would get some attention.
