Old Fear of Radios

I'm sure that no government in thw world is more scared of foreign radios than Iran. Even before revolution Shaah used to think that BBC Persian section made the revolution happen, and now those who toppled him two decades ago think the same. Iranian supreme council for National Security has issued an order on Nov 2002, preventing any official or political activist is allowd to talk to Persian sections of foreign-based radios such as BBC, VOA, etc. I know this is absurd, but it is true!

Hossien, I don't think Iran is not the only country that does that. Take into account North Korea, China, Cuba, and the list goes on and on. Even I am not sure how countries like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt would react under the same circumstance.

Uhh... how aBout NOrth Korea? IIRC, not only are radio transmissions absolutely controlled by the State, but any radios (and, I think, TVs as well) have to be specially modified so as to ONLY receive the government channels (of which I think there are just two of each).Which is not really a problem for the average North Korean, since it is, I believe, illegal to own a radio or television set.

Have you read the declassified CIA report of the revolution that toppled Mossadegh? The BBC *was* part of the secret agent conspiracy! I'm just reading your blog because I love the idea of the Internet letting me see far-off international conflict through the eyes of a real human with no institutional prejudice (only their personal prejudice). Also I'm interested in Iran, for some reason.
