Blogs for Arabs

The only way I think weblogs could be a catch in Iraq, is that a few bloggers should start their weblogs written in Arabic. These pioneers should show the potentials of weblog as a personal medium to other Arabic speaking audiences. After a while, with the possible local publicity that they would get in Arab countries, other people will eventually fall in love with the idea of weblogging and they join thse pioneers.

My personal experience about Persian weblogs proves this strategy to be very effective.

Now with Blogger supporting Unicode (which I think is far better than Windows Arabic encoding) every Arab man or woman can easily start a weblog in Arabic. The techinical aspects are not very much different than starting a Persian weblog. Eventhough the two languages are very different linguistically, they use almsot the same script.

I can help Salam Pax or any other Arabic blogger to start the first Arabic weblog. It's not difficult at all.

"Re: Blog for Arabs": Hoder, weblogging is popular in Iran because of our culture, the way we think and our lifestyle. Starting up an Arabic equivalent of persianblog.com will not upgrade the mentality of the Arabs in one night; on the other hand will take away considerable amount of your energy. I have met Arabs around the world, unfortunately most of them are living (mentally) in pre-historic times. Try to spend your energy solving problems for Iranians, we still have a long tough road to go...

It's a great idea. Some of these people might feel the need to cloak their identity, especially if their thoughts are going to be controversal.

Does anyone know if local telephone service is metered by the minute in Iraq? Or is it flat rate? Also wondering if it makes sense to put up a locally hosted server, for faster operation.
