Watch Irréversible at your own risk if you are a woman

Watched Gaspar Noé's Irréversible on DVD yesterday and I should say that I really liked it. Actually I always wanted to see it since it was screen at Cannes 2003, but never got a chance to catch it on Carlton theatre in Toronto, which is just in our 5 minutes walk distance. Last week at Jason's, he talked about it and reminded me of it. It was a pretty scary movie and I am happy that Marjan wasn't home to watch it--or in fact she heard Jason not to ever watch it.

I liked the cinematography, the crazy camera movements in the first half, and in the second half in another way; loved the soundtrack that in part was made by Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter; moved by the subtle but amazing visual effects; and I really liked the performances, especially by Monica Bellucci.

Aside from her great look and body--and honestly, breasts-- the fact that she was so real and natural as a young beautiful French woman, really stunned me; because in all her English speaking movies and even Malena (witch was an Italian production, but by a Hollywood taste) she is either a complete slut bitch, or a sad and depressed woman. So I had rarely seen her smile, laugh, or any sense of humor. She is always such a serious bitch/widow in those films that you can hardly find her a good actress. But here in Irréversible she proves she is really a talented actress who happens to be exceptionally beautiful.

Hope my wife doesn't read this, but if anyone asks me to define femininity, I just point to Monica Bellucci. She truly is femininity.

- I changed the title a bit because I don't want to sound like a sexist.

Yeah, what was I thinking! a propaganda film?!... ...no! no! absolutely not...mass hypnosis? Absolutely not. manufacturing consent and tolerance for violence? what are you joking? This is the land of the free and Dum. FreeDUMB I mean, right before the movie came out, I was thinking to myself...geez, I haven't seen a pretty woman get ganged raped since, since...well...since the Accused with Jodie Foster. Which incidentally hit the movie houses, just prior to the first war in Iraq. But, let us over look all of this, my friends. i see not one of you mentioned the costumes. what do you think about their clothes, do you think the designer has a chance at an oscar?

I saw this movie last year in Paris. I like the metaphore between 2001 space odissey and the movie (is about rebirth). I think Monica Belluci is a great actress, specialy when she play with her real boyfriend, Vincent Cassel.

I am italian woman. Sorry but I can't believe that you say!! Is Monica Bellucci a talented actress?!? .... She is really beautiful, she is (was!) a top-modell, but she isn't a good actress! ...or I think... by a ("not so pretty") italian woman. ;)

try watching Eyes Wide Shut. ...it's very possible that people can look in the mirror and not see their own reflection. what's astonsihing is that people actually pay to view plans in store for their own dissolution (a pretty face makes the medicine go down) ever wonder where the name Persian comes from? all sense but no imagination...no matter...it is not for you to question, or lead, or to change your destiny...it is for you to follow willing ...a pawn in a game, a game you will never master, and a game you will never win. time to take up the pen and release yourself from bondage...from old myths and legends... Man take this era to construct yourself.

I am a woman. A late rainy afternoon in Cambridge, England I walked into the small art cinema and bought a ticket. I was alone, with 6 or 7 other individuals who sat all separate from each other. The girl who sold me the ticked said ‘ I would not watch it.’ I smiled and thought she just has read phrases like ‘the horrific 9 minute rape’ and she might be curious but too disgusted to watch it. I absolutely adore Monica. She is pleasant to watch and warm to care for in any story. The movie had sadness, beauty and a sense of loss of happiness which appeals to me. My husband did not want to see the movie. He is English. I liked it.
