Sony's MD Recorders suck if you are a broadcast journalists
Damn it! I just bought a Sony MiniDisc Recrder (MZ-NF801) so I can use for my audio reports and interviews for BBC Persian. but now it turns out that the freaking Sony MDs do not let you upload your recordings to your PC.
Seems that there is no crack or get around with this cheap cheat and I either have to return it or keep it for other purposes.
the worst thing is that I've bought from a shop in Yonge street that doesn't provide refund; only exchange. I should've studied more before buying it. But how could I suspect a recored with microphone jack and USB/Optical outputs does not allow digital uploads? Now I should either use it like a typical cheap Cassette Recorder, with real-time analog transfer, or turn to an MP3 Recorder/Player, such as this awsome iRiver IFP-590T.
I have to ask Behzad Bolour, my boss at the BBC Persian, who also has an MD, how he uses it.
Update:
-Found this on epinions:
The only digital uploading MD recorder that's faster than realtime is a stereo component unit and costs around $2,000 or more...
Will the electronics giant with a huge interest in the Music industry ever allow us free reign over our music on MiniDisc and give us fast upload times as well? It's doubtful any time soon that we'll have the MD revolution...but keep on waiting.

Just adding my voice to the list - I was stung, same mistake, same device. The blurb/docs say Easy PC Connection with the USB interface, but doesn't mention that it's this bodgey one-way transfer.
The other features are awesome, recording quality excellent. But your lecture/voice notes aren't going anywhere and this PC USB connection is not much of a connection.

I got one MD MZ-510CK,But Now I found that there microphone jack, that means I can not use it to recorder voice. I like MD due to its high quality recorder result. I am wondering which type is ok for me?

I have an ipod and just bought the neuros for recording and uploading in digital. The ipod has a microphone accessory for recording voice but the quality limits this to note taking more or less. I'm hopeing the neuros will be for interviews I want to broadcast later. The neuros has a line in same as your MD recorder and many features that make it look promising.

I met a few guys working for Reuters in a pub, they all used iPod for voice recording (and also for music). iPod minis are affordable.
---------
Hey, does it have a head-phone jack? if so, just get a wire from radio shack and record it, then mp3 it.
but I totally agree, it sucks.

My father was once interviewed for BBC radio by a reporter who had a large, furry microphone connected to a tiny MiniDisc recorder.
This was probably before anyone thought of uploading from MiniDiscs to computers.
---------
oh nooo, that sucks man ... I feel so bad for you :S
bloody MD.
---------
Very very bad purchase you made. Buy an iPod with an extra voice recorder. Why on earth did you buy an MD recorder for that?
---------
Hoder... Chris Lydon makes good radio with a digital recorder.... You should go ask him what he recommends. He's a radio pro.
