'My Yahoo' RSS Reader Fails Unicode

Yahoo is testing a great new tool in its my yahoo section that can help a lot of Iranian access the uncensored content. (via Metafilter sideblog)

Using this tool, you can use My Yahoo page as a news reader. So you can search for your favorite news feeds (RSS for now) and add it to your My Yahoo front-page. (Add iranFilter feed to My Yahoo)

It's still in the Beta test mode and has problems showing Unicode (UTF-8) characters. But when finished, it can be used by millions of Iranian (and Chinese) who already have Yahoo account. (Try to add this Persian, UTF-8 based feed)

Government of Iran will have a hard time deciding whether to filter yahoo.com, since the whole country is using it's service--even the vice-president uses one to contact his friends. Even if they block users to access my.yahoo.com subdomain, Yahoo can simply add the service to its mail.yahoo.com which makes it almost impossible to block. (More info for publishers)

Hail to the technology and to the news feeds!

Dear hossien I try this tool, it is a nice & usefull one but we need to improve our rss files in new web sites. for example BBCPersian don't have rss output & your blog rss output have some problem with titels? or maby yahoo have some problem with them beacuse yahoo shows all your post as [ Untitled ] . I think it is better someone write a guidance about formating rss files. Have a good times

The Internet and its free flow of information makes tyranny impossible. The moment the ayatollahs let the Internet into Iran, they were bound to lose power -- sooner or later. OK, not everything about the Internet is so great (too much junk e-mail for instance), but on the whole it is a force for democracy. Remember this: when you publish a blog about life in Iran, you reach -- and can find the support of -- hundreds of millions of people all over the world, regardless of race, religion or color. Good luck!!!
