Iran cracks down on incoming VoIP

Rumor has it that Iranian government has started to crack down on all Voice over IP (VoIP) services from outside Iran. So VoIP many pre-paid cards seem not to be working anymore.

Many Canadian long-distance communication compalnies such as Goldline are now in real danger.

Some people say that the decision has economic reasons and has been because of the lowering revenue of Telecommunication Company of Iran. Others consider security reasons that the government wants to control all incoming calls to and from Iran.

UPDATE:

  • A couple of friends who work for Telecom companies in Canada has confirmed the reports. Almost none of the pre-paid calling cards are functional anymore.
