Ebadi-Sahabi, 2005
I just came up with -- I obviously believe -- a brilliant idea for the upcoming presidential election in Iran which I will post about it in Persian soon: Shirin Ebadi for president and Ezzat Sahabi for vice-president.
Don't preach me about the impossibility of women running for president based on the Iranian constitution. I already know that. But constitutions are flexible based on how judges (and in this case the Guardian Council) interpret them.
I'm really excited about this and going to start pushing it as much as I can. Maybe it suddenly happens, who knows.
To me, it's really a win-win situation. They either allow them to run in which case they absolutely win, or they won't get the Guardian Council's ok, which is very bad for them now after this tremendous amount of global pressure. Any thoughts?
Note: Jahanshah Javid told me that he has never posted comments on this or any other weblog. Any comments claming to be from me are false. I did not write the remarks about Ebadi posted here on February 8.

Dude! it's an idea...good? I don't know! I definitely disagree with your choices though. I used to believe in sahabi-ebadi type of people. But personally I find this group very confused and honestly politically-challenged!!
But if the democracy in Iran gets to the level that people can actually have a choice, I would like to see this on the ballot:
Sahabi-Ebadi (jomhoori) vs. Reza Pahlavi (mashroote)
and I think this is very possible, we just need to wait a few years.
I think it will narrow down to this. If it's a free election, there won't be none of that rafsanjani-velayati-khatamai crap (rajavi might still be around, and might manage to get 1 or 2% of the vote!...including the fanatics and hezbollahis, soroush gang and religious groups; the ones that are not liberal enough to vote for sahabi-ebadi!!!) what do you think?

You published Mr. Javid's disgusting comment on the top of the page, but you didn't publish mine. I call it democracy, Iranian style. Believe me, MS. Ebadi doesn't need your support.

I think you have a point there. I read an article in the NY Times by her which I think was a very forceful reply to the Bush agenda toward Middle-East. I think she has the prestige, background and world exposure to make a good president. But above all, she has backbone. Of course the Guardian Council has many weapons against her, one of them is the constitution which specifies the candidate should be from "Rojal" (Gentlemen). Of course there are different interpretation for the term "Rojal" which I leave to my learned friends.

Can you tell me what Ms Ebadi has done?
Except advertising for those useless MPs who when noticed they are losing their power went to protest. She said I kiss those MPs hands, those MPs who attended Khalkhali’s funeral , those MPs who received hundreds of million tomans from Sharam Jazayeri, those MPS who were not against Rafsanjani ’s son due to StatOil scandal , those MPS who tricked the students to vote for them and they promised they would follow the “Koy Danshgah “and serial murders cases but never did, those MPs who have had the worst background in the 1st decade of revaluation by hostage taking of American embassy and participating in the revolutionary guards and the ministry of intelligent. Although MS Ebadi criticised Iranian people‘s behaviour and nag them they do not have patience for the reform. Ms Ebadi said she would vote for Khatami for 10 more times. While Ms Ebaid who have had several meeting with Chirac and other European politician and beg them to support Khatami and his former MPs she said she did not have time to attend the seminar in Brazil due to trafficking Iranian girls to Persian gulf neighbours and Pakistan for … slave trading. Ms Ebadi have received up to one million dollars as award and she could make an institute to avoid exporting our sisters to neighbours for slave trading if she did so all Iranians around the world did support that institute by funding . Instead she always repeated the useless speech of Khatami and his former MPs and other slogans about America that we hear ever week in Friday pray. I became very happy when Ms Ebadi won the prize but time proved she did not deserve it.

The only thing I would tell you to answer your question about how popular or known Shirian Ebadi is inside Iran is this. I was talking to my brother who is a laborer in Tehran (blue collar) recently and mentioned Shirin Ebadi's name! He said "Who is that?" Now, my brother reads the evening paper a couple fo times a week and watches the local TV news once ina while. And I'm willing to bet an obscne amount of money (which I don't have to lose!) that a large majority of people in Iran don't even know who Shirin Ebadi is! Of course, it's all because the Mullah-controlled media, especially IRIB, have kept Ebadi a virtual unknown! I think Ebadi has pretty much wasted the historic opportunity she was handed with that Noble prize! Just leave her be; let her spend her prize money and ride into the sunset!

Before we have a woman as president, we need to change the government, otherwise same old S-H-I-T
as Khatami went through. My sugestion is referendum and since the goverment don't let any referendum happen therfore we should do what Ukrain people did and that is to come out on streets with one particular COLOR. I suggest BLUE color to show unity without blood shed. This color would be the sign for rejecting current system and to vote for a new democratic system.
be omid-e Iran-e AZAD...

I didn't think Mr. Javid could stoop so low. But what could be expected from someone who has kept on changing color and religion like his undewear since his teen age years.
As for MS. Ebadi, she won't run for presidency. And I agree with Niklas. It will backfire if someone or some groups pushed for her candidacy from outside--as all proposals from abroad have backfired.

Cool idea, but Shirin Ebadi said that she is not going to run for president. But keep pushing Hoder!!! Maybe it suddenly happens. Who knows...
---------
How popular is Shirin Ebadi inside Iran?
I think the real success comes if it doesn't look controlled from abroad.
---------
Third possibility: They do not want to run? From what I undrestand Ms. Ebadi does not seem to be interested to run for any political position.
---------
it'd be out of this world if iran had a female president before the usa.
