"War is good, becasue state media says it's bad"
I'm absolutely amazed to see how even educated, middle-class Iranians who still live in the country, openly support the toppling of the Islamic regime by the Bush administration.
One sound explanation could be that Iranian media have hugely failed to show a true and realistic picture about the meaning and the consequences of US invasion of Iraq and about the current situation in Iraq, especially in Baghdad.
Not that they haven't tried to do so, but they have always been so full of regime propaganda, exaggerated and distorted anti-Western content that nobody trusts them anymore.
People tend to do the exact opposite of what the state media suggests or asks them. This must be really depressing for the top Iranian officials and I think the supreme leader has no one to blame but himself.

I'm not quite sure that "educated, middle-class Iranians" are for the war. someone who has witnessed the destruction during the Iran-Iraq war cannot be for an invasion, unless they have other agendas. My impression is that the younger generation who had so much hope in Khatami and at the end realized he's just a part of the system, look at the war as the only option left to them. They are post revolution generation and all they have seen is the Islamic Republic and its restrictions. They have tried many things in the past to express their frustration but in every case they faced more repression. So they say, if a war gets this government to open up, then lets have a war and get it over with. That's not a logical approach but desperation has no logic.

It's maybe because they live in the country.

If that happens, they'll be sorry, for sure. There is about as much romanitic nostalgia about the Pahlavis as about the last Romanovs. It is curious how so many (most?) Iranians seem to have forgotten the bitter experience of the Pahlavis and their British and American sponsors, who operated then as they do today in Iraq. What a tragedy all of this is.

Thanks much for this prattling ethereal uselessness.
If change in Iran is the thing that keeps you up these late hours typing all around the thing, then get on with it, brother. Its your responsibility, but all you seem to get around to doing is talk, talk, talk.
By majik, I'm sure, you're positive thoughts about change will make it all real, and those equally noxious AmeriKKKans will just have to sit this whole thing out.
Time to grow up little boy.
Are you in it, or are you in Canada?

I agree that many people are fed up and because of that they are tending to flip any statement of iranian media many times before even think about some truth in them. But lets not forget about the many private satellite-dishes which allows those "educated, middle-class iranians" to get in touch with a wee bit more of a sophisticated press coverage.
Judging from what i have heard, the opinions about the war are as much diffrent in iran as they are here in germany.

True, it is a failure of the people in charge when there are some who wish for Others to attack their country! Shows how desperate some are. But the same people who ask for invasion will surely change their mind when faced with destruction and death all around them due to war. The innocent, children, poor, elderly are the victims of any war. Violence will not be the answer, it will foster hate, and that will bring us to the cycle of violence which is very hard to get out of. That is no way to spread Democracy and cultivate personal freedom.
As somebody once said : " killing for peace is like screwing for virginity".

Or did you ever consider: "War is bad, but the mullahs are worse"
If we're waiting for the perfect scenario, let's be prepared to endure another 26 years of mullah occupation.
And may I ask - why do you assume that a US-led topple of the Islamic regime would look exactly like the Iraq invasion? Why - when Iran and Iraq have so very little in common? This fact has not escaped the Bush administration, but it appears to elude many Iranians.
---------
Yep, I do believe that our lovely country shouldn't be occupied by the US or any other foreign forces. If we wanna some major reforms we must act peacefully with no harm. I personally don't wish any foreigners to attack my land. That's all.
---------
Hoder jaan... It's perfectly okay for you to write your opinion but where do you get this idea that Iranians want foreign invasion? On what bases and according to what poll results or studies done by who do you say this? Please explain.
.
Are you writing your true toughts or are you trying to write stuff that some people like to read?
