I would go back and defend Iran, if Bush attacked

The BBC has revealed plans by the US Center of Command in Florida to heavily attack the military infrastructure in Iran. This is pretty serious, especially if you know Frank Gardner:

BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner says the trigger for such an attack reportedly includes any confirmation that Iran was developing a nuclear weapon - which it denies.

Alternatively, our correspondent adds, a high-casualty attack on US forces in neighbouring Iraq could also trigger a bombing campaign if it were traced directly back to Tehran.

I've written before and I repeat it here. If the U.S. attacked Iran, despite all my problems with the Islamic Republic, I'd go back and fight these bastards.

The worst of Khamanei is hunderd times better than the best of Bush.

The United States has no concerns with Iran acquiring Nuclear Weapons because it would be absolutely no threat to the US (or Israel). Before Iran could even fuel an ICBM it would be turned into a large crater. That being a fact, let’s call the nuclear issue what it is: an excuse. The issue here is Iran's insistence on independence and self determination. As HODER rightly points out, Iran is far more democratic than every US "ally" in the region, and yet the United States never misses an opportunity to threaten or vilify the Iranian regime. I promise you if the Mullahs had been as pliable as the Saudi Royal family, we would be witnessing GW sing about what a good “ally” Iran is on a daily basis. As an Iranian-American I am torn between two countries. However, I cannot support US tactics in this instance. It would be immoral for the US to even consider a military attack on Iran and I would never support it with my tax dollars. If a war starts (I hope and pray that it doesn’t), I would not be able to justify living in the US and would certainly go back to defend my family and loved ones. The US cannot expect other nations to exist only in the margins of what is politically and economically convenient. That is not very democratic, is it?

I love president Bush. He is going to make America even richer after he takes over the Middle East. And once the middle east is ours, we wont have to worry about any crazy rag heads

I too plan to go back to Iran. and I think all Iranians who live in the west, and who plan to go back to Iran, need to make a very public declaration of their intention.

the fact that USA (together with their allies, the soviet union has contributed the most) has liberated europe from nazism does not entitle them to attack every country they desire.

Iran will never be attacked. America can only go after weak, embattled nations like Greneda, Afghanistan and Iraq. An attack on Iran would mean the end of the American Empire for all time, and Bush-Cheney-Clinton know that well.

Amir wrote: "Bush never assassianted 30000 people...." NO, But he is responsible for killing and injuring hundreds of thousands in Iraq! 4 million refugees, millions without jobs, healthcare, water , electricity,...ANd you want to join his army to come and liberate??!! Were have you been in past 4 to 5 years? Are you blind? Cant you see what liberation has done to the nation of Iraq? This is not liberation, it is Hell, And for some strange reason we Iranians do not like Hell! That is why the ones with honor among us will fight, die for our great nation so what has happened to Iraq does not happen to our children...

I can understand to Hossein when it speaks to return to its country. I suffer before the possibility of a bombing on the nuclear power plants, because this will bring terrible consequences for the population (diseases, contamination that will take millenia in disappearing, terror...). I have all my family in Iran, there they are my roots, my brothers, my nephews, my parents, my friends, single to imagine that something bad them could pass I will become crazy. So difficult it is to understand that the impotence and the fear put the people in you limit ? PEople change when they cannot be just as those that lives calm, with its families, their works and a country peacefully. I also would return if somebody makes damage to my country, if they attack to him wildly, but does not stop to give to support to no government or regime, if it does to be next to my family, of my friends. It could not be seeing his suffering through a telivisor, seated on a deceptive peace, could not live peacefully while my people suffer... for that reason I would return.

I don't think the real threat is US, although they could act as facilitators. The real threat is Israel. That's the reason Americans are moving their Patriot missiles to the region to defend Israel against the incoming Iranian missiles. Israeli regime has shown time and again that they do not follow *any* international law. Case in point their constant attacks against the Palestinian people and infrastructure. Or their recent adventure in Lebanon to destroy that country's infrastructure. And all this in the name of defense. Now they have their biggest challenge to face. So I wish you were paying more attention to this threat which has a nuclear arsenal at her disposal.

Lets imagine what happens when you arrive in Tehran to defend the Islamic government.... You get arrested upon arrival, convicted of being a US/Israeli spy, and prompty executed. It is amazing that you freely travel and live in Europe where freedom was paid for by American/Canadian blood and treasure and yet you choose to be ignorant and defend a fundamentalist regieme that has brought nothing to its people other than poverty, crime and addiction. In light of your views, I hope you use your Iranian passport, not the Canadian one, for your frequent travels around the globe.

You are full of shit! You will not go to Iran to defend it. You will stay in your nice cozy place in good ol' Canada and enjoy the freedom and prosperity and security of North America. You will stay there; or you will go on one of your bull shit trips to Europe promoting Islamofascism. You are a tool of the pigs who are running Iran.

I appreciate that you feel strongly about the prospect of war, but it's unlikely the Iranian gov't will hand you a rifle, and even if they did, there will be no one to shoot at. Rest assured that if it happens (and I don't think it will) the US will conduct this war from the skies. Anyway, don't you have an Israeli stamp in your passport? If so, you won't get past customs in Tehran.

I am just facsinated by the variety of the comments here! It's almost as diverse as north america itself!!! It is so diverse that I'd just rather let go and not add to it... Honestly I don't know if it's for better or worse that the so called literate and intellectual class of our society cannot agree on the most basic issues and has such mixture of opinions... I remember I met an Irish grad student who was very interested in the issues involving middle east and had recently read a book by an English traveller to Iran who wrote about people's feelings about the revolution. I asked her how she found the book and what was her take? She told me one thing: "You have a very confused nation. Barely ever, two Iranians who were quoted in this book had nearly the same opinion." Well, I guess after all the comments posted here are just proof to her statement, aren't they?

Disgusted Reader, I think your inactive better side has been reading your own comment. That's why it's been "disgusted". There are more than one fascist state in the world. The biggest is your own bloved America. The other is Israel itself. Nobody here is defending the government of Iran. The result of the US attack on Iran will only hurt people of Iran and not the government, as they will become even more powerful. Enough arrogance please. People with your mentality have already caused death to 600,000 people.

phillip norris: I consider what you are saying no more than a joke, a sad joke from a hypocrite. I won't dispute what you say about the regime in Iran. But I feel sick when I see there are still arrogant who do not see the atrocities of Bush and his criminal Washington gang. You praise Hussein for being freedom loving guy and as a result your brother? Hah! How pathetic! You have no clue what freedom is otherwise, you would have spoken out against what the gang of Washington have done. Over 600,000 people, just like you and me are dead as a direct or indirect result of the Iraq invasion, and your hypocrite eye fails to see that? No, stop lecturing us, keep it for yourself you arrogant. We cannot afford allowing the repeat of Iraq on Iran, believe me you cannot either, if you are smart enough to realize that.

Let me be honest with you: I usually don't like what you write, especially when you become the mouthpiece to promot Isreal in your stupid trips to Israel. The same Israel that is now behind this whole possiblity of the US attacking Iran, as it was behind the scnario of attacking Iraq. The same Israel that runs the foreign policies of the US and well, many other reasons that I don't like what you write. However, on this particular post, I am with you with the exception of thing. You know, it is not the matter of Khamanei or Bush. It is the country, it is the people who will suffer. The US will not dare to invade Iran, especially after the defeat in Iraq. But they want to be seen as victors, at least in one front, and that front may well be Iran. A massive bombing of Iran, without invasion, can bring that victorious image back to them, but the result will be devastating for Iranians who will have to deal with a regime much more powerful than before, a regime that can seriously crack down on people, under the name of "national security" and "foreign threat". This is of course on top of the massive human toll and economical devastation that such bombing will inflect on Iran. However, there are many things that we, Iranians who are outside the country can do to prevent these bastards from attacking Iran. What we can do here, we cannot do in Iran. Now, we have to find out and agree on what those "many things" are.

"The worst of Khamanei is hunderd times better than the best of Bush." I don't think so. The Americans want Iran to be free. As a 26 year old born in Iran, I want Iran to be free. I would join the United States Marine Corp or do whatever I could to help The US if this ever happened. How could you defend Evil? And please don't tell me Bush is Evil! Bush never assassianted 30000 people in 1989 based on an answer to one question

You sit safely in North America, the most secure area on this planet, and enjoy all the freedoms that the American Bastard have provided you. You sit there and say that if America attacked a fascist state that is pursuing nuclear weapons, whose leader speaks about the impending end of the world, and talks about the immenent destruction of Isreal, you would go back to Iran and fight against those who are currently your neighbors. By that statement alone, I say get out now. If you are willing to kill your current neighbor for the government you have fled, we don't want you here. There are two types of Iranians in my experience. The first is the bigoted anti-semite, who spews hatred and a love of death and destruction. I have met several of those. They are the equivalent of America's "Rednecks". They are uneducated, ugly people who give an entire country (and religion) a bad name. Then there are those so ashamed of their government that they call themselves "Persian". They are typically highly educated, highly tolerant people that make you realize why Iran is home to one of the most important and refined cultures on the planet. You are the Redneck type.

It's amazing to me that people really think IRI is provoking the west (read US) to attack Iran. Don't you guys know that they already have the plan to attack Iran and now they are making the case for it?? "Oh, the nuclear weapon thing is taking too long, so let's say they are killing americans in iraq". In the end who's checking? As hoder said, who is even asking what happened to the Iraqi weapons? And, as much as I want to believe in impeachment and the democratic process of changing leaders, at this point it is like a joke. So, what? even if he is impeached after he attacks iran what will change?? So far, Bush and his government have been the cause of death for hundreds of thousands of people and you are telling me in the end they might impeach him ... big deal. But, John (comment in persian blog) I admire your actions, I hope one day your daughter will talk proudly about her half-origins without trying to defend it like us in each conversation. I am tired of it.

i wouldn't die for the Islamic Republic, i wouldn't fight their war. no way, not a chance. IRI wants to be attacked, they actively provoke the west to be attacked, because that is the only thing they can offer to the Iranian public. they can`t fix the economy, unemployment, can`t mend relations with the rest of the world. the only thing they bring to Iran is oppression, devastation human rights violation and war. being nationalistic is one thing, being stupid and naive is another. IRI is trying to manipulate the sense of nationalism to rally people to go to war for its Revolutionary objectives. not me suckers, you`re on your own! i am an Iranian but i`m not stupid!
